COURSE INFO
PROVIDER : Midwest Biodiversity InstituteCOURSE TITLE : Ohio Rapid Assessment Method for Wetlands (ORAM)
INSTRUCTORS
Mick Micacchion
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Midwest Biodiversity Institute offers Ohio Rapid Assessment Method for Wetlands (ORAM) both as personalized training for agencies, organizations, and businesses and as a scheduled course each year. ORAM is used in Ohio’s wetland permitting program to categorize wetlands for permit reviews but is primarily an excellent rapid assessment tool for determining wetland ecological condition. ORAM has served as a model for many other rapid wetland assessments that are in use across the United States.
Each training session lasts two days. The first day of the courses is classroom instruction on the background and concepts underlying the method and explanation of the protocols for conducting ORAM evaluations. The second day is spent in the field visiting nearby wetlands that present different assessment challenges as participants learn how to produce ORAM evaluations that appropriately incorporate the principles learned in the classroom. Wetlands used for ORAM evaluation training on the field day will be in close proximity to the classroom location.
Participants leave the course with a firm understanding of the methods for accurate wetland assessments using ORAM. Upon completion of the two day training, attendees are confident in their abilities to effectively evaluate wetlands in the field and know how and where to seek additional guidance when needed. A certificate documenting successful participation in the course is provided to each attendee.
Credit Points: 0.9
