COURSE INFO PROVIDER: SWSPCP Webinar
COURSE TITLE: Wetland Mitigation and the Art of Creating a Water Budget

INSTRUCTORS Jennifer Van Houton, PWS, PWD
Stephen Stone, PG

COURSE DESCRIPTION Attendees will become familiar with the site selection process and what parameters are needed to create a successful wetland mitigation bank, specifically focusing on water budgets.

Jennifer Van Houton Bio:
Ms. Van Houten has 26 years of experience in environmental consulting with a specialization in wetlands and water resource management for both the private and public sectors. She manages Davey Mitigations’ wetland, stream, and nutrient mitigation banks. Other duties performed by Ms. Van Houten include: onsite site assessments for potential wetland and stream mitigation opportunities, coordination of wetland, stream, and nutrient credit sales, credit sales management for non-Davey Mitigation owned banks, giving presentations on the topic of mitigation and stream and wetland banking, and leading tours of Davey Mitigations’ created wetland and stream mitigation banks. During her tenure, she has worked on more than 400 projects and created 20 wetland or restored stream sites and/or nutrient conversion projects.

Stephen Stone Bio:
Mr. Stone officially joined Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI) in January 2017 while completing his MS at Old Dominion University. His graduate research, which was funded by WSSI, focused on improving wetland water budgets and contributing to the development of the Wetbud wetland water budget modeling software. Since joining WSSI, Mr. Stone has contributed to several unique projects and worked in a technical role on projects for all WSSI offices. He has also received formal training in wetland delineation, as well as training in Autodesk’s Civil 3D software, become a Dual Combined Administrator for E&S controls and SWM, received his Professional Geologist (PG) designation, and attended Rosgen Levels I-IV. Typical duties at WSSI include: assessment of potential mitigation sites, design coordination, groundwater studies, and restoration of construction-related impacts to wetlands and streams. Though Mr. Stone is part of the engineering team, he frequently works with WSSI’s environmental science and compliance teams. Mr. Stone has given presentations at several conferences and meetings relating to various wetland hydrology topics before and since joining WSSI.
